Interesting thread. I just assumed that 99% of people showered or bathed every day! I think it's been decades since I last took a bath though.

Yes, I am just that smelly..........and the feet, yikes, really need to scrub them babies.
Showering daily is a more recent trend. When people boiled water to take baths in the kitchen, how often do you think they did this?
I didn't start showering daily until I was in college in the early 1970s. My family would've been mad if I showered daily because we had a house with one bathroom. Taking a shower usually meant someone would be pounding on the bathroom door to hurry up.
We didn't even have a toilet in the basement like some of the neighbors. Many people in Western PA referred to a toilet in the basement as a Pittsburgh toilet. I don't remember people having more than 1.5 bathrooms until the 1970s or later. Growing up in the 1960s I remember people who still had old outhouses in their backyard so people could "go" when they were out in the yard.
Showering too often and taking long showers will dry out your skin. I will often skip a day on weekend and don't notice an odor. During the week I only take a second shower if I have to, such as after a long run.
I take a shower 7 days a week. Once in a blue moon I'll skip a day. I feel gross if I don't shower but that's me however I wash my hair every other day. My husband showers 4 days a week but cleans his important parts on the days he doesn't shower. He has a bad back and can't stand in the shower too long. Neither of us have taken baths in years.
We have an inground pool. If I take a late afternoon swim, I usually won't shower (unless I want to shampoo my hair). Otherwise, nightly showers are my habit.
I try to limit showers and hair washing to 4 times a week. I used to do it every day but my hairdresser said my hair was drying out and my color fading so fast because I was washing it too much.
So now I'm down to every other day - as long as my workout schedule works with that routine.
In the summer - more might be needed. I have super dry skin and I have noticed that during the winter months - it's a lot less dry since I stopped beating it with hot water every day.
