Has anyone ever had treatment for an aneurysm? My husband has one...he is having a test in 3 weeks to determine if they will just monitor it, or if it will require treatment. If it requires treatment, they will either implant a coil in the aneurysm via a catheter, or they will have to surgically go through his skull to clamp it. The treatment will be determined by the results of this upcoming test. I was wondering if anyone else had dealt with this before.

It sounds as if they caught it early because they are not doing the test tomorrow.
My father -in-law had one almost 3 years ago , his started burst , he ended up having brain surgery they clamped it and I think also used a coil. Because they didnt catch it early it was serious. He spent 3 weeks in the brain rehab. It affected his short term memory for about a month. The only lasting effect is he lost his ability to smell and taste but when you consider what could of happened we were blessed.
I am so glad thay caught your hubby so early. I know he will be fine but I will keep you both in my prayers

Yes, we are very lucky they found it. They were testing for something completely unrelated, and found it. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

I don't have any advice or personal experience with this. I'm sure there are first rate specialists in NJ that have lots of experience and a record of success. You are doing the right thing by trying to get some first hand info about all the options. Good luck to both of you in getting through this, this is a time for those docs to step right up and put those high tech medical wonders to work for your husband and you.

My alternate at work lost his wife this last Thanksgiving. She worked at a local hospital and took a fall on a wet floor at work. She basically bruised her leg but it bothered her for a couple months..and she would not get it looked at. Jim and wife took the yearly trip to a gambling casino on the coast like they did every year the day after Thanksgiving. She felt bad so the next day they started for home. Jim was driving, his wife asleep next to him. He said she suddenly woke up, looked at him and said his name...then slumped over dead. He damn near wrecked the car. It was awefull. Turns out a blood clot in her brain, from her leg. They were very much in love and he is still distraught, but getting better. Just the nicest guy in the world and she was too. You don't want to mess around. Get in and get checked and get treatment.

Christina, I am so glad they have caught it early. My husband's aunty went through hell until she was finally diagnosed correctly. Because it was left so long undiagnosed she almost died. Thankfully, she is fighting fit now. She has lost her sense of taste and smell, but considering the alternative she is happy. If they had caught it early it would've have been a lot better in the long run. I wish your husband all the best. Stay positive.

Rance I am so sorry for your friend and his loss. I couldn't even imagine how horrible that moment was for him. I hope he continues to get stronger every day.

These scare me because many people don't know they have one...until they die from it.

How do you find out you have one?

I thought there weren't any symptoms and you usually don't find out you have one, unless they go in checking for something else and discover that too.....

my father in law had a really bad severe headache and was off balance and couldn't focus.
they say that in the tests the vein looks like a bycycle tire innertube that has a weak spot that buldges.

This one has always puzzled me. Perfectly healthy people can be taken in an instant. It happened to my brother when he was 38 years old. Christina, I'm glad to know that your husband is being monitored for this. Maybe all who have recurring headaches should be. I can't say with certainty, but I think his outlook has to be good. I'm a firm believer in modern medicine in this regard.

Best wishes / Jim
