Six thousand deaths over the last decade could have been avoided if Americans drank less soda and sugary beverages, according to an analysis from the University of California, San Francisco.

The analysis found that America's growing sweet drink addiction has taken a hefty toll through health outcomes such as heart disease and diabetes and via higher health care costs.

Isn't it high-fructose corn syrup that is the new Satan? I personally think that 2% milk will be vilified next.

Wants to? I know that Indiana's government already does, and has done so for many years. Carbonated beverages are subject to a tax that non-carbonated beverages don't have.

Why not? They got away with wringing every spare dollar they could get out of smokers. And a good many here supported that and still do.

You do know that "2% milk" you see on store shelves should be more properly called "milk derived liquid containing 2% of fat"

$65 billions are being spent on soft drinks across USA each year. Organic foods net 20 billions. It's a HUGE industry with huge power. My personal contributions are $20 max, it's relative peanuts compared with $850 per household per year for the consumption of soft drinks. I don't make any conscious efforts not to drink, it's just at some point all that soft drink bonanza stopped exciting my taste buds, now it taste like "sugary" swill, no pleasure at all.
