You can argue yesterday, or even last moment, is history, but what I mean by history is a time period that's notably different and antiquated relative to the present day.

In that sense, I would say you can end History either at 1991 or 2001, by present standards.

Things were certainly different. Look at the use of the internet, cell phones, etc. The economy. Even the music.

Are the 1990s history and can we learn from them and interpret what happened? Absolutely.

I would say "history" is anytime that we can begin to view in an objective sense. Therefore recent history, though history, doesn't really qualify. For instance, we can't talk about the effectiveness of the Clinton Presidency without it devolving into politics. However, we are beginning to be able to discuss the FDR and Truman era in a more objective sense free of political bickering.

Once I hit "post reply", my post....this post... becomes ....(has become) history. History cannot be changed, only "re-written" over time, to suit the present writer/reader. The longer the time interval, the more it is edited, abridged, condensed and re-written. We cannot ignore recent history, waiting for its shelf life to begin.
