John Tyler at age 63 had a son Lyon Gardiner Tyler, and Lyon Gardiner Tyler at age 75 had a son Harrison Ruffin Tyler, and Harrison is about 80 and still alive. 63 plus 75 plus 80 equals 208 years. Three generations span the years from 1790 and 2009.
President John Tyler has two living grandsons

Wow

Why would anybody want a child at 63 or 75? That's crazy!

Interesting. Family folklore states the Moth Clan counts John Tyler as a distant relative. Maybe these guys are my 18th cousins 55 times removed?

Some people wonder why anyone would want a child at ANY age. Everyone having their own priorities does not, by itself, make them crazy.

Maybe it was an unwanted child, and his condom broke.

And here I thought it was amazing that my great grandfather was born in 1822 - my Mom (born in 1910) could remember him before he died in 1914.

I remember watching the TV show "I've Got a Secret" in 1955 where an old duffer guest had a surprising "secret" - he was at Ford's Theater when Lincoln was assassinated - his parents had taken him to see the play at age 5.

Another guest on that TV show had been a trooper in Custer's 7th Cavalry, but missed the battle because he had been left behind on the trail there for being extremely ill - another lucky soldier had been detailed to stay behind with him.

My Dad knew personally a Civil War Union veteran who had been captured and incarcerated in the infamous Confederate Andersonville prison.

I personally met an old lady in the mid 1950s who had been a neighbor of Jesse James when she was little.

Living links with the distant past are fascinating.

One of the wonderful things about growing old is the things that still connect your life with what seem to be better days.

My grade school was built during the Grant administration, and I'm pretty sure my first grade teacher was older than that, possibly born during the civil war.

My dad saw "Birth of a Nation" when it was first run, and had to stand in line to get a ticket to it. His family was already living in Hannibal when Mark Twain's family settled there.
