All on line for the first time ever, the Greatest Generation's story before the start of WWII (for America).

Search engine by name to be ready in 6-12 months but for now you have to search by Enumeration District numbers or by State, County, City and Street if you know it.

So will you be trying to find out what your teenage Dad/Granddad was up to in 1940?

I've tried all morning but the site is overwhelmed, probably will be for weeks.

If anyone is interested the site is working great now. I found my Dad and Mom's families already. Pretty interesting information.

Thanks DD! I don't know why but I've been fascinated looking up my entire family on this thing.

My mother in law was 1 years old, found her and her mom and dad.

Found my Mom's family by accident while looking for my Dad's. She was 17 and occupation was waitressing in the "tea room" at a Dept Store.

There are a couple of good threads on this census going on in the Genealogy Forum.

History wise - After finding my father I've been finding some of his high school classmates. It's rather sobering to know that Pearl Harbor was the next year and all of their lives were about to drastically change.

It's very frustrating to me. Can't find any of my family.

If you knew where they lived, look at the enumeration map and search by the enumeration number that will be on the map in their area.
