Hmmm...Sure, there is SOME merit to that way of thinking, but I look at the dissolution of the USSR and the destruction of the Berlin Wall more as the End of the Cold War.

I think that the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks of our country is a more momentous and symbolic end to the 20th Century.

Everything changed after 9/11, and some of those changes are here for good.

Many people called the 20th century "the American Century." This is another reaosn I look to 9/11 as the true End of it. It proved we were no longer impervious, and that our place on the world stage had changed forever.

Communism is not a relic and is practiced still in China the world's largest

Whatever the 'Reds' over there have now (a mishmosh of economic stuff if you ask me) the powerful ones could be quaking in their boots as to where this new century will take them and all the Chinese as to hopw to deal with the challenges faces that society. Arguably if they don't play their 'system' right they can follow the USSR in how bankrupt eco and soical systems meet their end.

Do not congratulate yourself that we have a superior economic system. Ours is equally flawed as the 2008 crash showed. Remember it? Some memories are short.

Re: 'equally flawed'

Of course, not perfect. My post was particularly to the Chinese state as it exists today. It's kind of like plasterboard. I'm sure when the USSR imploded they got to work trying to stuff the cracks or being aware of what area of the 'wall' will break into pieces first.

The USSR never imploded, it was systematically dismantled from within. Our system imploded. Remember? There are remnants of the command economy still in the USSR, but they now have the flawed system we have and subject to the same boom & busts. Their old system never had boom and busts - a great plus.

I looks like our failed system may be the cause of another world war. All the signs are there.

As far as I am concerned the first major event of the 20th century was the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 after a 63 year reign which marked a new beginning for the British Empire.

I see the transition as an inbetween of sorts. But when the Berlin Wall came down and The USSR ceased to be the ongoing theme of the 20th centure ended. The Cold war and its previous hot wars had ended.

But the 21st century really didn't begin until 9/11 which is the redefination of the balance of power. All our 'little wars' are related to that, not the cold war or the hot wars.

The 19th Century really ended with the death of Queen Victoria, and the beginning of the nationalistic rivalry between her descendents. It was also followed by an inbetween. Technology increased exponentially. Then a real war broke out and they got a chance to see how good they worked. And the 20th Century was alive and well.

Uh, no.

The 20th Century began Jan. 1, 1901, and ended Dec. 31, 2000.

There is no other answer.
