On another site were discussing the songs used by kids back in the forties fifties sixties onwards while playing ropes.. the type where two people caw the ropes and others jump in.. Id be glad to hear of your songs when young and playing this game.. here are a few of ours.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLA7SjheONk

There stands a lady on a mountain, Who she is I do not know; All she wants is gold and silver, All she wants is a nice young man.
Now she's married I wish her joy, First a girl and then a boy; Seven years after son and daughter, Pray young couple kiss together.
Kiss her once, kiss her twice, Kiss her three times three.

My maws a millionaire.....Wid ye believe it.
Blue eyes and curly hair.
Sitting among the eskimos
Playing a game of dominos
OH my maw s a millionaire.

Ah went tae the river - couldnae get acroass
Peyed ten bob fur an auld blin' hoarse.
Jumped oan it's back - it's bones gave a crack
Ah played mah fiddle tae the boat came back.
The boat came back, we aw jumped in
The boat capsized an' we aw fell in.

Not as good as yours, but here is the only one I remember -
Lily and Liam sitting in a tree
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
First comes love
Then comes marriage
Then comes Lily pushing a baby carriage.
Guess we were being groomed for a very standard life. :-)

Ring Around The Rosy is thought to be a song about the Black Death:

Ring around the Rosy, [A rosy rash was a symptom of the plague]
A pocket full of posies, [Posies were thought to both ward off the disease and mask its smell]
Achoo! Achoo! [Sneezing as one of the plague's final symptoms]
We all fall down. [Death]

Although no songs here it shows how kids could have great fun with a piece of rope. chalk and loads of imagination..

(Salome, Salome)
(You should see Salome)
Dancing there with her feet all bare
Every little wriggle makes the boys all stare

(She swings it, she flings it)
(And the sheiks all murmur, "Oh")
While the old sphinx winks and winks and winks
Out there where the sandbags grow only our words were a bit saucier.. then this one..

Tarzan in the jungle
Looking for Jane,
Janes in the toilet
Kissing john Wayne.

Tarzan in the jungle
Picking up grass.
Along came an elephant
And kicked him up the ar--

Three wee angels all dressed in white
Tried to float to heaven hanging on a kite
But the kite string got broken and down the angels fell,
They couldnt get to heaven so they all went to hell.

Three men they went a hunting
To see what they could find,
They came across a mountain
That someone left behind,
The Englishman said mountain
The Scotsman he said Nay
The Irishman said dumpling
But the currants blown away.

Not last night, but the night before
four and twenty robbers came knocking at my door.

but I can't remember the rest.

But what did you say when you were "IT" at hide and seek and gave up on the really good hiders?
I always thought it was "Alley alley oxen freeze!" but later discovered that's a corruption of "All ye all ye outs in free!"

Cinderella
Dressed in yella'
Went upstairs
To kiss a fella.
Made a mistake
And kissed a snake.
How many doctors
Did it take?
One
Two
Three.....

And you keep counting until you miss a jump.
