I wish there was a history teacher with balls who would throw the textbooks out the window and tell his students the truth about JFK, RFK, MLK, Watergate, Iraq, and 911. What an American hero this person would be. I long for somebody to do this.

The Truth is more elusive than that.

Hey, I want to be a hero! Sign me up! What particular truths about those folks and events would you like? I want to make sure that I get the right ones. Customized truths available for small additional charge.

The absolute truth is that Watergate happened because someone was too dang cheap to buy a roll of tape. Or too dumb. Wait. Considering who was involved, I'm going with dumb.

Unfortunately, for something to be a historical fact, it requires facts.

I think the class you're looking for would be more of a creative literature type of deal.

What are the truths? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think that's the difference between History and Journalism. A Journalist states the facts and allows the readers to draw different conclusions. I think history takes a conclusion and states facts that lead up to a single conclusion, almost like connecting the dots backwards.

When some one ask me what did you do yesterday I really don't start with,"I got up and I went to the bathroom...." I will select one maybe two events that I think are representative of my day leaving out some factual information which may or may not reveal something important. But did it affect my day ? That's for the journalist to decide.
I read a book on music history that seemed to be a collection of biographies, One biography for every generation. I think history has to leave out facts lest it becomes Journalism.
