My favourite Black Americans in order:
1. Rev Dr Martin Luther King. One of the greatest men who ever lived
2. Muhammed Ali. A great sportsman who didn't take any crap off the establishment
3. Malcolm X. Didn't agree with him 100% but he made a good argument and was a great example of somebody who turned his life into something worth living.
4. Rosa Parks for telling the racist to jump off.
5. Sly Stone for daring to promote racial harmony when it was "uncool" to do so. Too bad he destroyed himself personally.
6. Bill Cosby for telling it like it is to the current generation.
7. Minister Louis Farrakhan. Don't agree with him 100% but his deeds match his words. (met him personally once)
8. Hank Aaron. A sportsman that had and still has class.
9. Barrack Obama. Will make a fine leader- either as President or VP- for our country.
10. Clarence Page. A great columnist I have read for years. Has actually changed my views on a few things.
11. Harold Washington. Was a great Mayor and kept his class even as many folks in Chicago didn't.
My LEAST Favourite Black Americans
1. OJ Simpson. A sleazeball. Get a divorce dude like normal folks.
2. Jesse Jackson. Where there is a TV camera he will be and as soon as the camera goes off, he is gone.
3. Whoever runs BET. Thank God for TV blocking I can keep that sewage out of my living room.
I know he's been mentioned before, Dr. Charles Richard Drew was an American medical doctor and surgeon who started the idea of a blood bank and a system for the long-term preservation of blood plasma, Dr. Drew's project was the model for the Red Cross system of blood Banks, of which he became the first director. Garrett Augustus Morgan was the inventor of the gas mask, he was also the first person to patented a traffic signal.
My favorite black person is Henry Clay Yerger. In 1886 he established a school for blacks in Hope Arkansas. How he managed I can not tell you - hard work and grit I am sure. He went on to build dorms so students could attend school and had the only school that trained black teachers west of the Mississippi for a number of years. I have the honor of creating an art piece about this man for the front of a school in Hope named after him. When I took the contract I knew very little about Mr. Yerger. After learning about him I truely respect how he devoted his life to educating his fellow blacks during a time of racial ignorance in our country. We under value our educators.
Sojourner for her spunk -- check out her speech, "Ain't I a Woman?" Douglass's determination to educate himself is beyond belief, giving what little money he ever earned as a slave, to learn to read.
In recent history, Colin Powell. I also admire Condeleezza Rice's intelligence, and envy her education.
Jimi Hindrix- played a mean guitar
Colin Powell- he was used as a tool, wasn't his fault, would be a great Prez
GW Carver- I love me my peanut butter
Michael Jordan- What can I say, That man used to make me wish I was black
