But it is an interesting look at the role women played in the destruction of Europe. It is sure to raise all kinds of troubling new questions about how society can allow it self to be compliant and willing accomplices in the assembly line fashion of murdering an entire race of people. Sounds like an interesting case study in something not written about much before.
you may be right, odanny. the post-war generation of women was supportive of the 68 "rebellion" against restaurative authoritarianism and had to continue the feminist struggle in its wake. in terms of academic disciplines, the historic period has been well reappraised, yet (and i can only speak from my own experience) the big silence between us and our parents continued and has left a gap .... we have this pragmatic and utilitarian approach towards life ...
too materialistic for comfort.
And; the German women IMHO (Nazi and otherwise) paid their Karma in full------------between 4 million of them never having husbands because the men were basically murdered under Hitler's insane military adventures and too, quite a few women were raped at the end of WW II, mostly by the Soviets.

In all fairness: using just the Jews as the murdered; between 1/2 and 2/3rd's of them were spirited out of Nazi Germany prior to the Holocaust--------in many cases by the SS (quite a few individual SS members had Jewish friends and did what they could to save them). Said fleeing German Jews had a big hand in building up Tel Aviv in the 1930's..........apparently, quite a few of the Bauhaus crowd were part of that. The Nazi's hated the Bauhaus School of Design and ordered it closed in 1933.
Now: if discussing mass murders of Jews; the worst percentage wise occurred in places like Poland and Hungary due in large part to the complicity of the locals.
it's late in the day, and few of the surviving victims on both sides of the fence can take advantage of being interviewed for telegenic media presentations. reparations were paid on many levels, largely impersonal to a re-educated collective.
It's always interesting to me to realise how much more appalled we are when women participate in this behaviour than men. I suppose, despite all the horrors we know women are capable of now, we still think of ourselves as being the caring, nurturing sex that would never think of anyone as being "sub-human" and treating them as such. But you just have watch documentaries about the Third Reich or movies like The Reader and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas to know we are in many ways no different to the male of the species.
