A little different slant then I expected.

The Earps vs Behan/Cowboys feud also marked the divide between Republicans and Democrats. Clearly the Caldwell Tribune was a Democrat controlled newspaper because it sides 100% with the Behan/Cowboys version of things, even including the lie that the Earps participated in a stage holdup, the actual perpetrators of which had long been identified before this article was written.

If you were to find a Republican controlled newspaper from this same era, it would contain an equally distorted version of events which favored the Earps 100%.

"Murder in Tombstone: The Forgotten Trial of Wyatt Earp" by Steven Lubet, published about ten years ago, is an excellent account of the disputes which led to the famous gun battle and subsequent trial. Lubet does not take sides but rather relates the facts and leaves it for the reader to determine the morality and rightness of either side.
