Wouldn't that greatly depend upon just what your 45 is doing?
I do several things, a garden, hunting and fishing, and......I can always go outside and work with the dogs, (3 GSD's and one genuine rescue mutt puppy) I am 64 yrs old and still hand mow a 2.5 acre yard and maintain a 5400 ft/sq veggie garden.
I'm 55 and training to run my first marathon. I chose to raise money for a charity, so I'm working on that in addition to running.
I just took up knitting again.
Working in the garden.
Reading, for enjoyment and also education on topics that interest me.
I have children at home, so being involved in school and their sports takes up the rest of the time. Do you like kids? Volunteer your time with an organization helping children or even animals.
Write a book.
Build something.
Take a class.
good luck!
I do pretty solitary things. I love to read, quilt, refinish furniture and do minor house projects. But my main interest is food, I guess. I love to shop/window shop, read about it, talk about it, and plan special things.
When I was much younger, I used to be quite social, but somewhere along the line I became more introverted-2 divorces do that to some folks.
I work crazy hours, and where I live I'd say close to 70% of the residents are "snowbirds and are retirees. So they have their own social comunity they stick to.
But I often thought of a "game" (a variety of board games) night a couple times a month would be something I'd be interested in.
I just haven't ironed out logistics or who I'd approach.
There's not much to do here "off season," or even "in season" if you don't want to spend alot of money, and don't want to drink all the time.
I took up sporting clays (shotgun sports) at the age of 59. Something really fun to do with my son and DIL. Of course, you need to like shotguns and shooting first. It's been addictive.
I dunno. What did you do when you were 44? You know, before you got so old...
Sorry, can't resist giving you a little grief - LOL.
But some ideas:
Model trains
History - lectures, historical sites, books - pick your topic.
Pets
Gardening
Home repair/improvement
Fishing
Swimming/boating
bike riding
gym
walking/running/marathons/walk-a-thons
volunteering
