Playing in empty arena's we now have "made for television" Hockey. Having cameras closer to the action provides for better camera angles, and makes it easier to keep site of the puck. Your thoughts?
I don't think the speed or intensity of the games are any different. Watching them on TV doesn't seem to have changed except for not having the fans, of course.
I also didn't think the teams would look as sharp as they have and some of them look pretty good for having such a long layoff.
There have been some upsets early on and that could make a difference in the initial 5 games series. As time goes on I think that will even out, but you never know. In a way it's like any other playoff -- teams that get hot can go deep.
I was actually referring to the camera work. One of the biggest reasons people "do not watch" Hockey is because they claim they can not always identify the players and often lose site of the puck.
The NHL is taking advantage of an empty arena to provide for a better television experience. I see a stark difference. More so during the games from Toronto then the games from Edmonton.
I'm not a fan of some of these camera angles, too much vertigo-inducing. The one I'm specifically referencing is the 45 degree angle camera that shows up when a team is on the PP, games broadcasted from Barclays Center involve this. Some may like it but I'm not a fan.
One cool thing about the empty arenas is that the sounds of Ice Hockey being played can be thoroughly heard in full. Not just the chirping between the players, but the puck banging against the boards, the puck hitting the goal post, the skating, the sticks hitting the ice, etc. The sounds are pleasing and among the best in sports.
I have only seen parts of one game. NHL blackout rules don’t make sense. The teams are playing in Toronto, not here.
