I am about to buy a property but just realised that the bathroom has no vent. It is a condo in a high -rise, and the room is kind of internal - so no windows, and not close to any either.
How do I deal with this? Could solving it be something as simple as installing a fan? Or would I need to run out a duct somehow?
Thanks for any input!

In my state, that's a building code violation. Ask the home inspector about it. You can also call a few electricians and get free estimates to put in a fan. Even if it's compliant with the housing codes in your area, can you imagine taking a poo...and no vents? If it is in violation of code, ask the seller to pay.

I think the building was built before the codes were in place.

What are you trying to accomplish? Sanitary ventilation (i.e., fumes and smells), or humidity?

Current building codes require a vent for sanitary ventilation. You could easily accomplish this by simply cutting a hole in the drywall and installing a grille. It will vent into the wall cavity.

If you want to remove humidity or moisture, which is not required by code, even today, then you would need to install a duct and exhaust fan. But the building may not allow you to do this. In that case, you could just buy a desk fan.

all the newer construction here in NY never have windows in the bathrooms, they have vents, which are basically as good as nothing. same with kitchens that is why this open concept thing really caught on with the builders, they didnt have to put windows in all the rooms like the law passed in 1901, so they make one giant room....
