I have a double vanity with 2 seperate mirrors above each sink. I have walls the abut both ends of the vanity. I have recessed medicine cabinets in each for his/her. However, I do not have a place to put hand towels (no room for rings on each of those walls). But I have this big open space between the mirrors and sinks on the counter. I was looking for ideas on what to do there. I was thinking glass shelves and a towel bar or do a wall cabinet with a towel bar underneath. Any suggestions on what to do?

I've seen a number of narrow, tall cabinets that sit on the counter and go up between the mirrors. They have either doors, open shelving, or a combination of the two. We'll be taking the full-length mirror off the wall in our master bath and building something of that nature with individual flanking mirrors soon ourselves.

If this is an interior wall, you could break through the wall and recess storage in that un-used wall space, if there is no wiring there. Although glass shelves are nice too.

If you're even remotely handy, you can purchase 1x6 lumber and built it yourself. Either paint or stain it to match your bathroom, either that, or hunt around for a cabinet to simply mount in the wall cavity, then frame it out.

If you put a tall narrow cabinet, between the two sink areas, as suggested by the other posters, you could put hooks or circular hangers on each side of the cabinet to hang hand towels --easy to access from each sink area.

Most Bed and Bath type stores will have a lot of shelving options. Are you looking for something to hang towels on while you use them or to store the hand towels? Could you put some hooks at the end of the cabinets? I have some of those 3M hooks on the ends of my cabinets for hand towels. Can you post a picture of your bathroom so we can see the set up?

I believe BobK was referring to something like this:

However; this particular example is actually two separate vanity bases and a tall pantry type cabinet. I've even done some for H/O's. My cabinet guy built doors on each side at the mirror hgt. and a drawer stack from the counter top down. Several combinations are possible- the main thing is either matching the existing or, if the existing is a stain grade using a contracting paint grade.

I'm sure desertsun will be around soon for other ideas, suggestions.

My idea didn't involve a deep pantry-type cab- just a 12" deep cab that sits on the vanity- but the concept is somewhat similar.

There are some high-quality American-made RTA cabinets that allow you to choose a custom depth and custom height, so you can go down less than 12" deep, if needed.
