We want to change our flooring from carpet to wood in our family room and can't decide if we should go with a lighter or darker wood. I think because of all the black in the space it would be better with a lighter wood, but the wife disagrees. What do you guys/gals think? Here's a pic of the space.

If you are keeping that dark couch, I'd say lighter.

(PS - the picture above that couch should be lower....)

Lighter, even as a fan of darker wood floors. Given your shelving color, I think light is best.

Check out bamboo. It's light but there a lot of variations in color and it would look great with the dark furniture.

Well I would say dark, but I love dark and that's what I have. I will say it shows EVERYTHING. I have 3 huskies and vacuum everyday and that's not enough. You can clean it one day and the next it looks dirty again. Light wood hides scratches and imperfections better. I think either go with anything, but it's more of preference.

Light or dual tone for your space. Dark woods show everything. Dual or multi-tones are best at looking clean the longest. (Walnut, some hickories, etc.

I would definitely go for lighter, but not that awful "blonde" shade, but maybe a medium oak color.
