I will be shopping this week to pick out new carpet for my livingroom, hallways and stairs. This will be to replace existing wall to wall that is way past due. I would like suggestions as to what brand or material people have liked. I now have a mid blue and am so tired of it. I think I will be going with a med green, gold or beige. I'll know more about the color when I bring home some samples. When our present carpet was installed we had a very good undercarpet, so I think that's the reason it lasted so long. There are no wear spots (unbelievable for sure) but it is stained and thin in heavy traffic areas. I will be so glad to get this done. Thank you

I'm getting new carpet next week... we shopped around a little and ended up going with Costco.

It's just my husband and I and our 2yo, we have tile and wood on the first two floors so the only areas that are being carpeted are the stairs to the thrid floor - all that is up there are two bedrooms (each with it's own bath). So - the are doesn't get much traffic as there's no reason for guests to go up there and we don't wear shoes up there. So we went with a plusher carpet.

We did get the better pad since we live in a condo (soundproofing)

The color I picked it a coffee color with some color variation in it, it was also a frieze style which is a sort of modern shag. I think both the style and color will be a little more "forgiving"

I got a semi-shag about five years ago for our floors, and while I LOVE the idea of shag, it always needs vacuuming to look fresh. So, I'd get a flat-type rug, and I like the above poster's idea of coffee-colored. Any neutral you will like better than a color. If you want to add color, put in your wall-to-wall, and later you can lay a smalelr colorful area rug on top.

If you are doing wall to wall carpeting, I would strongly caution against a "color."

Stick with a neutral.

I didn't say the whole house had to be neutral and I certainly didn't say I'm afraid of color! Quite the opposite as I have color all over our house.

IMO, flooring is a pain to replace - even carpet. Why spend money and labor on something that is often a pain to replace when it really limits how you can decorate your house or your tastes my change 5 years down the road?

If you paint your walls "med green, gold or beige" or bought some throw pillows or rugs with those colors and 5 years down the road you are sick of it, it's a pretty easy and cheap fix. How many people can justify changing their carpet when it is still in good physical shape just because they are tired of the color?

Obviously everyone is different but I think it just makes the most sense to bring the colors in with paint and art and accessories and furniture and rugs imo vs a statement floor covering. And any colored floor makes a statement (for better or for worse).

Ha! I guess I'll be going with a tea color, then. Which, actually, would be kind of an attractive color for a carpet.

What color camouflages cat barf best ?
