Hey Everyone,

I got a house a few months ago and I'm still decorating but I have a problem, my window frames (pvc) have been partially painted!! They look awful. I cant use paint stripper because it will melt the pvc so my question is - Does anyone know what I could use to remove the paint without damaging the pvc?

What kind of paint is it? If it's standard interior latex, this worked for me.

I used this to remove paint from our baseboard and door/window trim and a little around my vinyl windows after repainting the entire interior of my house. With a little elbow-grease it did the trick.

Plain flat latex- hot soapy water and a scraper wrapped with a terry rag. Soak the paint with the water and work off with the wrapped scraper.

Gloss latex- will usually peel right off once you get it started.

Oil-based paint- use citrus based stripper instead of solvent based. Then again, most solvent strippers probably aren't strong enough to damage the PVC. But test in an inconspicuous area to be sure.

I used a scrapper and some sugar soap, it worked on the thinner layers but ok the thicker ones nothing happened. I have managed to scrape 3 clean but it took weeks. The two that are left are really thick, the white paint had gone yellow so it looks horrible and needs to come off.

Thanks for the suggestion I will give it ago

Goo Gone Painter's Pal Spray Gel, 14oz
Yeah I'd imagine its just standard silk emulsion. I don't understand why anyone would paint perfectly good white PVC but its been done.

Thanks for the suggestion I'll give it a go and get back to you.

Use denatured alcohol. It will remove paint and clean pvc without ruining it.

Latex paint, yes.
Denatured alcohol won't touch oil/alkyd paints.
