Is a dual vanity considered standard for a master bath these days, or is it generally acceptable to have single vanity in the master? Thanks.

Always duel for the master in any modern home. Often in a Jack & Jill bath gets duel also.

We opted to not go with the dual in our master - we don't use the bathroom at the same time so why two sinks and two faucets to buy and maintain? Also two sinks take up a lot of room on the vanity top - I prefer to have one nice sink and lots of room on the vanity. I keep the top uncluttered when not in use but do like room for hand-towels and a vase of fresh flowers too....still lots of room left for all my things that I pull out of drawers when I'm getting ready. Two sinks would be a complete waste of space and money - for us anyway.

We had a single sink at our old house and have a double sink vanity now. I'd never go back to the single. It's worth it just for those times when we are getting ready at the same time for a night out or something like that.

DH and I never get ready side by side.
We also do not have (or want!) dual sinks. We also prefer one sink with more counter space.

Yes, dual vanities are considered a standard feature today.

Acceptable (single vanity)? If your talking about a house that's 30+ yo; then yes, acceptable.

Default Dual VANITIES vs DUAL SINKS...

ANY house built in the last 15+ years that has a master bath without enough space that allowed it to be equipped with DUAL VANITIES is considered a NEGATIVE for resale. No two ways about it.

There are a fair range of options that might be a valid reason NOT to have DUAL sinks (privacy / no need for side-by-side morning preparation for work, preference for more uninterrupted counter space, design that has a single "trough" or other oversized single sink, "dressing table" stye vanity, etc) but the basic idea is that DUAL vanities are pretty much a MUST and anyone trying to justify a master bath with too little floor for DUAL vanities will also probably come up with some silly reason to try to explain away inadequate closets, cramps kitchen or insufficient storage space...

I'd rather have a single sink with more storage space and/or more square footage in a bedroom or two. The space allotted to master bathrooms these days is obscenely ridiculous.

Two sinks is standard now in a new house, but they don't have to be side-by-side. We have 2 vanities, on opposite walls, and I prefer it that way. It gives us a little more privacy--he can't see me floss or spit when I brush my teeth! Gross!
