Does anyone know a good place to order Seagrass or Banana leaf furniture that isn't crazy expensive? I go into model homes and they always have cool, unusual pieces that I don't see in the stores. I wondered if anyone knew of any where to get good deals?
Here in Charleston, I can find that stuff at local furniture stores for a pretty good price. The chain stores tend to overprice it. With you being in Florida, I would guess you could source it locally as well.
Search for wholesale importers that specialize in furniture from Indonesia. Most all woven furniture that has Water hyacinth, sea grass or banana leafs come from this area of the world.
The good quality stuff will be built with Teak frames and will have little or no brads showing- curing and finishing processes vary, so do your homework. This is usually not cheap, due to the nature of the pieces- "hand-woven".
But, if you're looking for cheap-ass small accent pieces you might find a piece or two at Pier 1.
You don't say what kind of chairs you're looking for, but I've seen some nice water hyacinth dining chairs at Overstock.com.
