I saw this house a day or two ago online and had to share it. I love that is so full of color, despite being a mid-century house. I love the space and the big windows, but I also love the vivid color and the plants.
I might not totally agree with long hearth, but it does seem to work. The house is so alive with color and verve.
What do you think? (Remember that this is someone's home, and they have kindly opened it up to the world.)
I'm not saying it looks bad but it's not my taste at all. However, since it's not my house, I'm sure that they don't really care much about my opinion! lol!
I would disagree that it's 'colorful' but that's what I like about it--it's essentially a neutral palette, with splashes of color in the furniture and accessories. That's how I design and how I typically recommend clients style their homes as well. It's easier to change or add if your foundation is neutral. And I like how they've used the dark pink as the 'common thread' for the accents throughout. One room has more greens and yellows, another has more blues, but that pink is always there. Another good design approach, as it gives that cohesiveness without being matchy-matchy.
But it doesn't say 'mid-century' to me. And once upon a time I enjoyed Design*Sponge features, because they featured great small-space ideas and before-and-after inspirations. They had information I could apply to my own projects. But at some point they sort of stopped doing that and just changed over to a 'house porn' style which doesn't really grab my attention.

The house is modern in style, and so is some of the furniture. I was really surprised at how they tiled he fireplace though. And I was surprised by the use of so much red purple. That is a surprising choice. But it sure does make the green plants pop. I guess I like it so much because it isn't typical. It is surprising and different.
And, even more surprising, the house is in AZ! There are no references to the outside environment at all, except for the use of plants.
I basically like it, although overall a bit too busy for my taste.
had to chuckle at your comment about the living room. That is the one room that I really feel needs help. All the color is on the bottom. All the white is on the top. Gives me the impression that some of the color fell off the walls or something.
It interesting that there is virtually no mid-century furniture in the mid-century house.
I think the overall design works for them, and is refreshing as far as not following the crowd.
My only quibble is all the bold accent walls with otherwise white walls. I'm never going to like that, and they're never going to care that I don't like that.
Love it! I've always been a fan of lots of white mixed with bright colors. Not a fan of the hearth in this particular shot, but maybe it's just an odd camera angle. Glad to see mid century becoming popular again. I always thought the windows were fun in those old houses.
I agree. The large windows in the living room are Mid-Mod shaped, but nothing else about this house is Mid-Mod.
Mid-Century Modern is one of my favorite styles. My paternal grandparents had a Mid-Mod when I was little, and I always loved that house. By default, I tend to favor the whole style.
This house looks like a Mid-Mod that was taken over by HGTV designers.

Yes, that's it in a nutshell.
