What do you think about putting rug on top of carpet? I love rug when its wood floor or any non-carpet floor. I think rugs does a great job of break off a room & add nice color touch to it. But for some reason I don't like rug on top of carpeted room. I know its used often in open floor room where their is a need to break up the room.
Is it just me or do other people not like rug on carpet look?
I hate wall to wall carpeting with a passion, and the one time I had to live with it I used a couple of small Oriental rugs to break it up. It left that motel look much improved.
I use large rugs to anchor the furniture arrangements in both my living and family rooms, which are carpeted. I'd love to have hardwood floors, but my house is just too open for that. The noise would be unbearable, plus I have three kids to put through college, so I have other financial priorities. The rugs look great, so I'm in favor of (large) area rugs over carpet, even if it sets some interior designers' brains on fire. Keep in mind, though, that they must be placed using a special adhesive rug pad to keep them in place, and they can stretch, particularly if the padding underneath the carpet is soft.
Definitely shows a lack of design style, imho. I make custom area rugs, and this has bothered me every time I've walked into a home and seen this.
Just curious how this shows a lack of design style in your view. Some of us have what seems like acres of wall to wall. I am not sure how not using an area rug could be better than using one, if one anchors it and places it well.
Just asking for more details about what you dislike. I'm curious.
