OK, we met with our contractor yesterday and in January we will start redoing our master bath. WHAT AN ORDEAL. Thank goodness we have a fully functioning bathroom and two spare bedrooms (and closets) upstairs. We'll definitely be moving up there for the duration, which will be about three weeks of hell.
Anyway, this whole thing started coming together a few months ago when we found this fabulous light fixture on clearance. It was discontinued and had a damaged shade, so though it was originally $1000, we got it for about $150 and then spent another $200 on having a new shade made.
This will hang in the center of our master bath so it really sets the mood, which I call "Greta Garbo Old Hollywood Glam."
The first two pictures are from the listing when we bought the house (built in 1997) a little over two years ago. Since those pictures were taken, we have removed the wallpaper, which would have driven me stark raving mad in about 15 minutes! So now the walls are just beige. Still have the brass fixtures as well as the big, jetted garden tub which also sort of freaks me out thinking of all the cooties lurking in those jets.
The next picture is the light fixture. The next picture is the tile we're probably going to use. This tile will be on the floor, up around the tub, and inside the shower. It is all four tiles combined - not just one pattern of the four tiles. I've seen it in another bathroom and it is FABULOUS.
And the final picture is of the same main tile (Cathedral's Marrakesh in Matte Gray Mix) in a bedroom - couldn't find a picture of it in a master bath but I swear I've seen it before - LOL.
The countertops will be a quiet, manmade marble, nothing flashy. The walls are going to be painted a very subtle soft metallic greige - a sort of champagne color.
I thought about a free standing tub but changed my mind because the space for the tub is only 50 inches long. That would make a very short free standing tub, so we're going back in with a garden tub - SANS JETS. The cabinet below the garden tub will be the same finish as the other cabinetry and the top will be man made marble. We're looking at brushed nickel for the fixtures.
Anyway, nothing is purchased yet so we can still change our mind about lots of stuff!
The main issue is that "busy" tile combined with things like jutting angles and walls that do not go to ceiling mean lots of places where the pattern is interrupted. If the tile setter is ok with you signing off on that that is one thing, but if there is disagreement between client & contractor you both end up with a job that is not ideal...
Personally I would not be happy covering walls & floors with such a distinctive tile.

I agree that the many angled walls could be problematic with that tile. Its effect is showcased on that flat wall in the master bedroom sample, but it may be lost in your bathroom.

The tile is going on the floor. We're not covering the walls. It is only going to be trim around the tub and backsplash. I may not have stated that clearly in the OP.
I just found that photo and it showed the effect of the tiles. You can't tell it from the pictures but the wall area of our bathroom is pretty large - about 8 X 12.
It's basically just going on the floor and in the shower. And actually just the back wall of the shower.
I can't wait to see it! I love your choice of tiles, too. I planed to put something similar on the floor but in black and white. Your new project is going to be fabulous.
Love the tile! I wouldn't like the hodge-podge look of it all mixed like the wall on your photo though...I'd choose one pattern and go with that.
Post pics, can't wait to see the end result.
I'm not putting it on the wall, but I AM going to put the "hodge podge look" on the floor. I think it's going to look great. The colors are subtle and neutral.
I will post pictures! I am just sitting here drumming my fingers till we start!
One thing I am not looking forward to is the mess. Since we're also flooring and painting the two closets, we have to get EVERYTHING out of our closets and all the bathroom cabinets. UGH.
And move upstairs to the guest room. Thankfully we have a full bath up there - not a spacious one but at least it has a bath and a shower up there. Just one sink. This should all be very interesting.
