Yes, weather permitting. In fact, I just posted to my community that we saw about 70% of our community display a flag, bunting or banner yesterday. As a very proud daughter of a WWII vet, respect and love for the flag and our nation was instilled in my sister and I as young kids.
My Dad used to say, just like a family, you may disagree with a member but, at the end of the day they are still your family. My family of "USA", was how he felt and passed it on to us.
We do. We don't take it down every night, although I know it's proper to do so, but we do take it down if a storm is coming and I do make a point to replace it regularly.
Amusingly, there's a guy in our neighborhood who plays taps every evening when he takes his flag down. He doesn't play it very loudly; it sounds more like a train in the distance. I found it a little weird when we first moved in, but now it's such a part of the neighborhood that I'll really miss it when we leave.
I would feel obligated to follow flag code and my life is to hectic to make sure I have it down by dark, or the lights installed and timed to do it right. Plus I live close to the beach and it annoys the crap out of me when people just fly torn and frayed flags.
We try to follow the etiquette, too. We don't put it out if it is rainy. I hate to see people leaving theirs out all the time in all sorts of weather and without a light at night.
When Hubby created my flag pole for me, made it where we are able to put it half staff-which we do for Memorial Day & 9/11.
We fly the State of Texas flag most of the time. I do change it out with a blingy Mardi Gras flag during Carnival season and a Christmas-oriented flag during Advent, but other than that, it's the State of Texas.
I have various wreaths for my front door though and one of them is a patriotic wreath, and I always put that out for various US holidays and the weeks around them. Basically I leave this wreath on the door between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Then I have a spring/Mardi Gras wreath, and a fall wreath, and a Christmas wreath, so basically each season I switch the wreaths out.
Our HOA puts an American flag in each yard around the 4th of July unless the homeowner requests not to have one placed in the yard.
