Should the blue extent up above the shelf to the ceiling or just leave it below the shelf as it is now? This is a dining area in an open room. Yes, I know, the chandelier will be lowered! Thanks.
I’ve seen that in person. It’s even more incredible standing there and seeing how the windows, light and shadows align perfectly with the rest of the room.
Now, given I won’t be hiring an Italian painter, serious thoughts about whether go with the blue on top or leave it as it is to define that space are truly appreciated.
I'd leave it the way it is in the picture. It has a good flow, overall. Bringing the blue up would make the area look choppy. Right now the ceiling area flows nicely throughout.
If you continue the blue up the wall and leave the shelf its current color, it will give the room a more midcentury modern look, which contrasts with the island/tropical theme you seem to have going.
Looks like there's enough opinion either way, that no matter which you choose, you will be right.
