I loved these, they were such pretty pieces of furniture and remember the bass to the stereo was pumping, funny how there was always a space to put this, but now, everyone hangs the flat screen TV over the fireplace (which I hate with a passion).
I guess no one had fireplaces back in those days.
I do think the console TV's were much prettier than a flat screen, unless it is in a cabinet of some sort.
I am not a fan either - I call it movable art. Have you seen the commercial for the Rollup tv? I think it is a LG. They show a few kids running around it and it is inside a box in the middle of the room. Of course, this is to sell the tv but really -in the middle of the floor!!!
I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but on most consoles from that era the knobs were almost always to the right of the television screen (sometimes behind a panel), but rarely under the tv screen. The knobs on the etsy one look like drawer pulls, IMO not really much of an authentic look, if that's what you're after. https://www.google.com/search?q=cons...F_enUS801US801

Going to the link and zooming in on the listing pictures, they're definitely drawer pulls and not knobs/dials.
I think it's interesting how we've changed in the way we watch tv. In the sixties we looked down towards the floor when we watched tv because most were in these consoles and so our viewing was close to the floor. Now with flat screens being hung up on the walls, sometimes above fireplaces (which I really don't like), our sight line is just the opposite. Now we look up towards the screen.
We have a large flat screen in our family room that is seated on top of a credenza/console so from our sofas and chairs, our sight line is straight ahead. It makes for very comfortable viewing.
Depends on the room and the rest of the furniture. If you like it, that is all that matters.
