Since you are gonna change the wall and the floor colors, my suggestion is to go for a little darker shade of tiles these aren't showing out. you get what i mean. how abt choosing brown for the walls beige and brown tones really go well together.

Looking at the photo I would definitely NOT put a raised hearth. With the door to the left of the fireplace, it would be a trip hazzard. The one piece granite would be nice. I suggest something in a dark brown tone, ie: Tropic Brown. It looks great against the stone of your fireplace as well as all different wood tones of flooring.

I don`t like the tiles. Granite looks really nice around a fireplace or another type of stone is nice. I don`t like Slate for a fireplace because it`s to dark and heavy looking.
