I have a pale yellow set of everyday dishes that coordinates with my china so I can intermix them on the table and they look nice-I did that on purpose. I agree with renting dishes if you want real dishes and won't use them again. Another option would be to borrow some from a friend, neighbor or relative.

If I was one of 21 guests for Thanksgiving, I would not care if the dishes matched. Heck I might not even notice if they matched or not. It is a pretty ungracious guest who would comment on something like that. I am more concerned with what is on the plate than whether my plate matches my neighbor's plate!

Thanks everyone for all those great suggestions. I am going to go to the Christmas Tree Shop and see what they have-if not get some boxed sets at walmart or bed and bath.

I've been around long enough to be thankful my self, friends and family are healthy-for today. It is our first holiday in our new house and I want the table to look pretty. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone

Where do you live? Around here there is a restaurant supply that is open to the public which is a good source for inexpensive tableware.
I also have pretty good luck finding stuff like that at Pier One.

There are also cheap finds at Marshalls and T.J. Max. I can sometimes find seconds of my pattern "old country roses" there. Some womans mags I have read, suggest mixing china is in and perfectly acceptable.
