This is not a screeching sound, or other high pitch brake wear indicator sound. It really is a gurgling sound, and it doesn't happen all the time, just when cold or at low speeds, although I need to pay more attention today to see if it does it at low speed when warm.

My mom had her mechanic check the brakes before she gave me the car because she thought the sound meant brakes about to go out, she was told brakes were fine, and indeed it does brake well.

Any ideas?

Is it gurgling or vibration from pads on rotors with surface rust. You don't say where you live but in some parts of the country humidity is bad enough to create surface rust overnight on rotors. First one or two stops can make noise from vibration. It disappears as soon as the rust does.

car was purchased used in Calif. and has been out of state for a few weeks. It is really gurgling, no other word to describe it, unless it is some kind of liquidy grinding. It's pretty loud.

Make sure they are bleed. You might want to break in the brakes by doing some high speed braking followed by cooldown and more braking...4 to six times should be good. Brake hard enough to activate your abs!!!!

Once you are done add some fluid if you need to!
