I like Lawn Boy the best followed by Toro. But I got pretty poor service at a local privately run lawn and garden place and if I had it to do over again I'd definitely choose a big box store and save some money. Some places want your business and will work to keep it, others won't.
May I suggest this one? I like it, easy to start, easy maintenance. Can use bag or not. Mostly I use the bag during spring spruce up and in late fall to help get leaves up. I can mow fast, and hubby slower when he does mow. Not sure if it is in your budget, but you can check around on prices for the model if interested. good luck ! enjoy your new place!
That's the one I have, but I didn't get the electric start option. Really a great mower. My neighbor has one too and he let me try his out before I bought mine.
Budget-wise it is about what your are going to pay to get a good mower. Home Depot does throw them on sale every once in a while though.
MIL bought one of these last year NEUTON® Cordless Electric Lawn Mower It is a fabulous mower that runs like a dream. 63 years old and mowing her own lawn. Her yard is just over 1/4 acre and this mower does it at her speed without needing a recharge.
Basic good advice in this case. An electric mower is the easiest for any woman, or seniors, to use at any age be it battery powered or corded.
If you buy a corded electric mower the cord must not be over 100 ft. ,in one piece, and must be 12 gage grounded wire NOT smaller (wire gage is backwards what you might think. the smaller the number the bigger the gage so 12 ga. is bigger wire than 14 ga etc. )
The new generation of this type of mower is so much better than the old ones. They are lightweight, don't require gas or electricity, and will never break down. I want one of these very badly.
I personally think Honda is hard to beat especailly the por model. If your goign to get a cheaper one jusy make sure it has a briggs & stratton engine. besure to change the oil and clean air filkter as that is the life of mower. The more HP the better really.
Thanks for the help. The ones listed are a bit out of our budget so I will probably end up just going to sears and trying to find the best for our money.
If you want easy yo use and longevity get this one.
Contact the RTV (Return to Vendor) clerk at your local Home Depot. They return items to vendors to be reconditioned. Sometimes you can get a great buy. I worked for one of the reconditioning places and can tell you that if it goes back to the store to be resold as reconditioned there was little or nothing wrong with it. Imagine that your husband bought a $1000 mower without talking to you. After you convinced him you could not afford it, he could return it. It would be sent out for reconditioning. I know I "reconditioned" a lot of itens that were never used.

True. I bought the $350 one for $175. It was used as a free weekend loaner by a customer. They bought in on a Friday and returned on the following Monday. HD cant resell it as new so it has to be shipped out and recertified as reconditioned. Absolutly nothing wrong with it.
