...and a definite "no" vote on Kaboom. It absorbed moisture and turned into a solid mass that wouldn't come out of the bottle... I had to hit it against the curb out in the street just to get some of it out. And the smell!

I've also had luck with vinegar and baking soda, but we have very hard water here, so I prefer "The Works". Had to scrub & scrub with CLR. Not so with The Works. I get mine at W__-M___ for about $1.

I don't like putting a bleach tablet in the tank. Some of the parts in their are plastic, and bleach eats plastic!
I used to use the Dow tablets for my once-a-week cleanings, but now they've quit making them. I don't want to use the disposable stuff they've come up with...too much "disposable" stuff going into the waterways as it is.
Recommendations, anybody?

this is 100% true. do NOT ever use those tablets. we corroded the inside of the tank and the plumber told us in no uncertain terms were we to use bleach tables.

i don't think they're necessary anyway as long as you clean the bowls once a week.
