It was at 3:45 in the afternoon. Apparently they stole laptops and jewelry. The funny and stupid thing is that my neighborhood has gates in the front and back and they don't even stop criminals. Plus it was kind of odd that it was right before I got home. Then I saw 3 cop cars... kind of freaked my mom out cause the cops came to question my mom (i'm in high school lol) and turns out my dogs starting going crazy and barking at the crooks and my mom saw them for a spit second.
Lesson learned: Just cause it's a nice neighborhood, doesn't mean it's safe.

So it's a gated community? Yeah, that's false sense of security. Some thieves target them instead because they know they're NOT regularly patrolled by the cops, and because of the gates, there will be folks who'd leave their doors unlocked at all times.

I agree. I hear "false sense of security" from people all the time who live in gated neighborhoods.
No neighborhood is 100% safe and generally the more affluent the area, the more of a target it is. What I always find ironic is that most people seem to have the image of a burglar that breaks into homes in the middle of the night while you are sleeping. This is far and away the least common type of burglary. Police in my area put out a statistic that 95% of residential burglaries in our county were done between the hours of 9am and 4pm, M-F. Having someone at home all day is almost a guarantee not to get robbed. They want your stuff, not a conflict.
I called the cops on a guy "breaking in" my neighbor's home at night... heard machinery, noise.....it was dark but the guy had a flashlight....(first I called the home but no answer...)
well the cops came and took the guy to the station, where it turned out he was a HVAC repairman! Idiot working in the dark! Cops told him he should notify neighbors if he is going to work at night!
My neighbor was pleased I had called in, though.....

(I nailed them as they were going out the door with Old Man Blaine's TV. )
Put a large dog food bowl on the front porch--dog optional.
