Not trying to redirect the topic, just looking for a definition of a term you tend to use a lot. Seriously, how many square feet does a house need to be to be considered a McMansion?

In my opinion, the term "McMansion" is not really about size or square feet... I see it as an over used derogatory label that is meant to convey the speakers perception that a particular house or neighborhood is too large for the lot or area, too expensive in relationship to other homes etc.... I know my next comment will not be well received by some, but I think when an individual uses the term "McMansion" it can come across as a bit of envy or jealousy towards people who choose to live a certain live style...just my opinion

Why would anyone envy houses that look exactly like everyone else's?
I might as well envy those who live in commieblocks in Beijing.
