I put up the indoor decor the first week of December, which consists of the artifical tree, garlands, stockings, nutcracker men etc...The SO and Dad do the outdoor lights in all white except for the 2 trees by the front door which are multicoloured. That gets done usually right after Thanksgiving and stays up until Epiphany time (6th-7th) then it comes down. The indoor decor comes down about the same time, very quickly~

Reason: spelling is fundamental
I can't understand why people leave their Christmas decorations months after Christmas. We have some lazy people out there. If you hate to take them down, don't put them up.
I like to leave them up through January, or until sunset starts at about 6 pm. It's so dark at night, walking home from school or work in January, and the lights bring cheer to the gloomy sad month of January. I live in a very conservative city and most people are very proper and take down their lights after January 6 or so. But I'm a hold out, because my lights make me happy on a dark night when I drive home, and they also make me happy inside, when it's cold and dark outside. So I say, leave them on even into February, if you want to bring cheer and comfort to the wanderers in the cold.
To those who say it wastes electricity: BAH HUMBUG!
I just took mine down this afternoon. I really wanted to have them done by the end of January 1st, but I procrastinated until today. I feel better now that I finally did it.
We keep ours up till after January 7th because we celebrate Christmas on that day. We are Eastern Orthodox.
We weren't, and we aren't, but we always leave them up until then. Mom called it Russian Christmas. She also put an electric menorah in our front window because we had Jewish neighbors.
I take them down after New Year when the weather is pleasant (they've been taken down for a while now)
