Tonight a dimmer decora switch in my home made a sizzle sound when I didn't flick it on fast enough. Is this something to be concerned with or was it simply b/c I didn't flick it on fast enough? It is a dimmer with a toggle switch to turn it on. I kind of had my finger on it but didn't flick it fast to turn it on and it made the noise. Tried it again and it did the same. But if I flick it on fast with a fast click, it does not do it. Is this normal or is something wrong with it? BTW, I have heard this in another switch of mine. They are all about 2 years old only.
One thing to check is the "wattage" or electrical capacity of the switch. How much total wattage the switch is rated for.
Then count up the total watts of the lights which are being powered by that switch. The switch wattage rating should be higher.
Also you can get "commercial grade" switches at some retail stores, but always at an electrician's supply. These are used for businesses / industry and are built to last longer - better quality. And cost a bit more.
Well, not exactly- if you had read granny's post from that thread you'd see what I was trying to imply.
(it was the combination of stranded and devices)

yes their diagnosis was certainly off; i was just saying that you can use stranded wire in dwellings. nothing illegal about that.
