I have a wood-burning fireplace. Around the opening, on the outside is metal trim (for lack of a better way to describe it). It is on the outside of the fireplace and the doors are attached to it. This metal is rusty and I'd like to either paint or replace it. Does anyone have any idea what it is called?

HowStuffWorks "The Parts of a Traditional Fireplace"

You want to replace fireplace doors.

What you're describing is the frame opening of the firebox (of a pre-fab fireplace).

A little sanding, and a coat of high-temp spray paint- wa-la done!

Thanks. Do you know the names of any high temp spray paint? Or I suppose it would say it's high temp?

Rustoleum makes a flat black for barbeques. I doubt it would be an issue around doors, but it does fade to a dark gray with excess heat.
