I use them as a firm but soft surface for eyeglasses or my phone.

I haven't had a mousepad around for ages.
Not necessary, with the wireless mouse I use.

I would not have the need to use them for eyeglasses or a phone either...

Haven't used a mouse in years. It was causing issues with my shoulder since I spend a lot of time at the 'puter. I love this trackball, had a little learning curve and it's hilarious when people grab it and slide it around the desk at first. But with my thumb as the roller control it really is incredibly faster than using a regular mouse.

I'm upgrading to the wireless version soon so I can more easily take it with me to meetings.
