Best thing I ever did...you can't live in a stock certificate....why not enjoy yourself!?
sold ours .
our stocks investments don't call us at 2am and tell us we have a power outage and the temperature is dropping in the house and we are hours away .
our stocks don't force us to pay school taxes when we do not even live their full time and use the schools
our stocks don't make us feel guilty when we don't visit them and end up spending whatever free time we get going no where else .
our stocks don't need the grass cut , the snow plowed and fuel delivery's made .
after 5 years we realized we did not really want to ever retire to where the vacation house was and so we sold it . made enough money with those damn stocks to buy two of the homes today .
but , everyone has to do what's right for them .

I fell in love....I lost my loving feeling for South Florida....a lot of people thought I was crazy....I had a waterfront home in so fl....imo...NO COMPARISON....I fell in love with country living in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
Too many places I want to see for me. I have found a few places I might want to visit repeatedly, but not enough to forgo any future places that I might decide would be better. I'm saving nothing for my kids but the home I am currently in (and multiple sets of china that will probably never be used). My stock is invested in visiting multiple places that should be viewed in person.
Glad you are happy! It is wonderful when you find what works for you.
DH and I know we don't want a vacation home. We would rather travel to various places than always go to one.
I agree, its a big beautiful world out there. Once you have a home base you like, why limit yourself to one other expensive second home location when you can visit a new one every year or two. And probably at less expense than buying a second home.

This is the reason we have a motorhome, unfortunately my not being completely back to my normal after the stroke has limited the distance we go but we do still go when possible.

vacation homes usually end up like boats . the happiest days are the day you buy it and the day you sell it .
we enjoy not having the expense ,the stresses and the pressure to keep going there .
