Hi everyone, we ned advice from someone who is knowledgeable in decking materials and costs. Our contractor originally gave us a reasonable quote for a timbertek deck. After deciding to go with azek instead due to color choice, our contractor proceeded to place an order for us. We did visit the lumberyard our contractor uses and was told that the difference in material should be around $300. At the same time our contractor kept neglecting to provide us with the dollar difference and just kept saying he will send it via email shortly. Finally tonight he tells me that he will start work tomorrow morning and that the price difference in material is $900. We are having a hard time believing this is true. Anyone on the forum has more knowledge regarding decking prices and can tell me whether the cobtractor is just pumping us for more $$? Thanks in advance.
I believe you have all the ammunition you need- confront your contractor and ask him straight up. "Why is there a $900 difference?" You may get a legitimate answer; but since you already have a figure that is substantially LESS than what you were quoted, the chances of it "actually" being legit are probably nil.
From there you can do one of two things- fire him for what you feel is excessive markup, or challenge him with the information you have in pricing and demand a re-quote.
I ordered and got everything delivered to my driveway. They were much cheaper compared to the local store. I showed them the prices I got and they said no way they could match it.
