And? What's the issue?

Anyone know of the likely reason for this?
Not enough water (& hot water) to go around

Do you happen to have a hot water recirculation system for providing "instant" hot water? The way those work is they have valves which allow water to flow form hot to cold, and if one of those has failed, it could be allowing water to go the wrong way. It certainly sounds like you have cold connected to hot somewhere.

you might try point of use water heaters that heat the water instantly for the fixture they are supplying.

I thought it was normal that you couldn't run water when someone is taking a shower. That's the way it has been my whole live everywhere I've ever lived.

Nope. That is what balancing mixers were designed to fix. The pressure might drop overall, but the temperature remains at the user setting.

Ya, I really don't think anything is "wrong." My parents had their house built and it was that way from the day they moved in.

True, but normally what you get is really hot water when someone flushes or turns water in another part of the house. The OP is getting really cold water.

That is because the problem as stated in the original post is that they are turning on another shower. Likely turning on the hot water in that one. That was why I asked if there was hot water in the second shower when the first one got cold. (That would eliminate a problem with the water heater.)

The problem is, as soon as you turn on one shower, followed by another one, the first turns ice cold.

You get really old water if a different appliance uses hot water. Since the washing machine, dishwasher or even washing hands can make a shower cold, another person taking a shower would do it too.
