Heard a strange noise and after investigation I found a woodpecker pecking my cedar shake siding. There were several holes about the size of a quarter in the same area so it's been going on for awhile I guess. How can I keep them away? There are plenty of trees around here, both dead and alive, so it's not like there isn't any other places to peck lol!
1. They are protected so you cannot kill them.
2. Sometimes they peck:
a. for food (insects)
b. to signal to a potential mate
3. Sometimes you can discourage them and sometimes you cannot.
4. We lived with a cosmetic damage until 1 week prior to putting the house on the market. I figure the new owner is looking at holes by now.
