Best caulk to use for hardiplank (paint, siding, between, Georgia)

Knowing the majority of the new homes around Georgia are hardiplank, what is the best caulk to use to recaulk seams for hardiplank?

I think the manufacturer actually recommends not caulking butt joints between pieces of siding. It's not functionally necessary, the paint on the caulk and siding doesn't fade evenly, and just creates an ongoing maintenance point.
