Hi, I know people have posted about cafe height plantation shutters. But I am wondering about putting plantations shutters at ~3/4 the height of my windows. Will this look ridiculous from outside?

So my windows are approx 48" inch in total height. The part of the wood that goes across (with the lock on it) is about 24". So obviously from outside you would see that strip of wood and then the top of the shutters would be about 12" over that.

I don't mind the look of the shutters at the 24" mark to match the window, however it kind of defeats the purpose that I want them for (privacy). I just don't want full shutters because I want the light from bare window at the top.

HELP! Do you think it's ok to do the 3/4 height shutters? or NO?
(PS: I do not have panes, just plain glass windows)

Thanks!

I'd do full shutters with a middle rail-
upper shutters can stay open for light the lowers closed for privacy.

That's the type my in-laws have. They are nice.

Shutters should be sized to fit the window. Anything else....like those ridiculous things people screw onto the side of their house next to a window, looks dumb.

In your case you want them to be functional, as they should be. Get them to fit the window. If you wish to use a split design, go ahead. Forget about three quarters, or half, or whatever.

Definitely do shutters for the full window, with a split rail so you can keep the top part open when the bottom is closed for privacy. You do not have to do the rail at the exact middle. I have 3-1/2" shutters with nine slats above the split and ten below.

The OP is talking about PLANTATION SHUTTERS; NOT the shutters you put on the EXTERIOR of a house!

The OP said that if the closed part only goes to 24 inches it won't be private.

It was a polite way of saying it would look RIDICULOUS!

I think you answered your own question......inside or out, external or plantation, shutters which don't fit the full window look silly.,

Sheesh.
