Hi everyone . I just bought my second weed eater ( used ) this one is a black and decker grass hog. They both lasted all of 10 minutes before giving out the very first time I tried to use them. I found a video online of how to fix my grass hog but not sure it will work.

I have a small lawn and do not need much or anything fancy. I was seriously thinking of getting an old fashioned push mower. I have read the new ones are much easier to use than the older ones are. Has anyone tried to use them?

Then I came upon this article about using a scythe . The grim reaper thing. They say it works and has none of the problems you deal with from a weed eater machine. What do you all think?

I have used a scythe on my dairy farm.

The problem with a lawn is a scythe does not work well on short grass that you will find on lawns.

If you want to let your lawn grow tall enough to use a scythe, it will be a real eyesore.

Get good solid calf guards so you don't cut your leg half off.

We have a rider and an older push mower that works well, the stupid weed eater does okay but the thingys that cut break so easily and quickly.

You could always put a fence up and buy a Goat.......LOL

I think you're going to have a sore back, arms and especially the back of your legs, of course if you don't mind the exercise.... I've seen much smaller ones with golf club type handle and about 12 inch blade, not sure if the proper name is scythe.

If you're going to buy power equipment especially two stroke don't buy junk.

I was using a crappy electric weedeater and about 3 foot of line came out at once. It wasn't pretty especially considering I had shorts on. Right in the dumpster and never used a weedeater with shorts again.

Get a new weed eater. As mentioned, a scythe is a harvesting tool for use on tall grasses.

If you do use one be ready to have Incredible Hulk shoulders eventually.

Yes, a push mower is good for small yards. The trick is to cut the grass regularly (sometimes twice a week) as they are not good on taller grass.

Maybe "power tools" are just not your thing.

You may just have better luck with the reel mower and grass clippers.
