I am having a problem with crickets in the house! I have put painters tape under the exterior doors to keep things from slipping in. But they are still getting in. Every night I go on cricket patrol to capture (and release outside) as many as I can. But even after I think I have rid the house of them, I will still find them in the bathroom in the middle of the night.

I have a lot of wild animals around my house - snakes, tarantulas, lots of birds, lizards. I also have a couple geckos living in the house that I dont want to harm. Is there a way to get rid of this cricket problem without harming the geckos and outside wildlife? Or a co. anyone can recommend that can do this? I understand that the crickets are seasonal, but I hate them.

Thank you!

Call an exterminator, they will get rid of the crickets and it won't harm any of the other critters you mentioned. You can do it yourself with food grade diatomaceous earth and Cy-Kick but it is easier to hire someone to do it.

One thing to remember...crickets are a food source for most of the critters you listed. If you get rid of the food source the critters are going to move to areas where there is ample food (out of your yard).

Without sounding too harsh, I used to be a scorched earth, kill 'em all advocate, until I finally grew up and realized that there is a definite order in the food chain. You'll eventually realize what that order is, and how best to deal with it based on where and how you live. There are professionals available which can provide excellent information regarding the specifics you may need.

Crickets are harmless. Noisy, but harmless. Why the war on crickets?

If I had crickets all over my house I'd want them gone, too!
Beetles and lady bugs are harmless...who wants them underfoot, in the bathtub or jumping on you reading the paper! Ick! They belong outdoors, period.

I use ammonia for many things...I mean if there was a rag with ammonia at
the base of a door would you go near it?
I splash it around to make my place undesirable to the new racoon family.

rocky,
I know what you mean. I had a cricket in my attic for 2 nights, it was absolutely horrible. I couldn't
sleep at all. The lack of sleep is not good, you get cranky.
They sell this weather stripping at Home Depo, not expensive, you can use it on your doors. It goes
on the frame of the door and it has tape that actually works, (it's been 3 years, still working), I used
that for my back door to keep the bugs out. No more crickets.
The other things outside will eat them.
You just want to stop them from getting into the house in the first place.
I will never forget the cricket in the attic for as long as I live, it was horrible.
My toads eat them now, and lizards, like the ones you have, we have them outside.
I never spray anything, I want all my protectors alive and kicking.

Every summer I look forward to hearing a cricket on my bedside windowsill lulling me to sleep. But I got new gutters this spring and the workers had to tear the cricket-friendly vines off the side of the house to install them. No crickets. Phooey.

In some cultures crickets are a sign of luck and used to detect preditors. The noise could be annoying, but they are harmless - I think. Although I did hear years ago, when I had them in my farmhouse, they liked to eat carpet, which is where I usually found them dead - under the radiators.
Read up about them. Interesting. Luck.
