I was 23; the day after I graduated from college, I moved out and went to live in an apartment with a roommate in a city 150 miles away. I don't think my parents and I even ever discussed my moving out, I just thought it was the normal thing that everyone did when they finished school. That was in 1977 though.
Anyone who thinks that kids should be out by 18 that's fine, it's your opinion. Anyone who thinks females can stay after 18 and males shouldn't is a misogynist, who thinks women are weak. There are parts of the country where there is nothing to do but get married and have kids and move out of your parents home, that's fine. Some kids, because yes 18 is still a basically a kid, want to leave because their home life is awful do to bad parents. Some people live in parts of the country where it's not feasible to get a place because rents are so high, It's best to let them stay at home so they can earn a safety net of 2 years rent and an income to allow them to rent what they can or to get a roommate. Some cultures that are nurturing and loving think it's crazy to kick your kids out at 18.
Loving parents like mine let me leave when I was ready. They also said that if I ever needed a home that I would have one in their house. I left and never needed to move back in with them. My mom passes away but should my father ever need a home, he's welcome to live with me. If you have or raised bad kids, you might be the problem.
Do you even know the definition of misogyny? You could call this position a double standard, but it hardly rises to the level of misogyny.
I turned 18 in January of 2009. I graduated from high school that June. I moved when it was time to go to college. I saved money over the summer before moving. I had been working since the age of 15, so if I wanted to I could have moved at 18, but I saved more money by waiting until it was time for my parents to ship me off to college!!!!

Sounds like to me that you have parents that most people dream about .. Sorry to hear about your mother and your dad is a lucky man too..
You beat us, which is unusual these days. I moved out at 19, married at 21, going on our 42nd year now. We met in college.
Someone asked ,"but was I happy?" The answer is yes overall. The problem now is that we are both ill and disabled and so life rather sucks at this point but it is not the fault of the marriage.
ingrained prejudice against women. Which is what that person was describing.
Origin of misogyny
Greek misogynia, from misein to hate + gynē woman.
Misogyny is a hatred of women. I saw the phrase you used, but that's something you found on the internet, as did I. Remember Abraham Lincoln's admonition..."Don't believe everything you read on the internet."
