Buddy of mine is struggling with a hard plug in the outlet of the bowl of his commode. Appears to be lime buildup from hard water. This has been building up for some time apparently. He says there is a small passage through it about the size of a dime.
What do you suggest to clean it out? Offhand some sort of acid. The plugging is so bad that to start with he's using vinegar, so if it runs over it won't make his bathroom into a hazmat site.
Likewise, any chemicals or techniques that you consider a bad idea?
Just stick with CLR, even if that means that you are using gallons of it the risk of using anything more concentrated is not justified by potential dangers -- http://smile.amazon.com/CLR-CL-4Pro-...6/ref=sr_1_2_m
That buildup likely has some uric acid crystals in it (which stink). Muriatic acid can be used, but frankly it is better to replace at that point and put a water softener in.
A new commode is not expensive or difficult to install. Your friend should go that route.
