I recently bought a new mattress with a low profile boxspring, because the new mattress was thicker than the old one (and I didn't want to pole vault into bed each night). My problem now is that the top of the new boxspring is a couple of inches below the top of the bed frame's side walls. This puts the bottom of the mattress below the side wall and hard to access. So everytime sheets are changed I have to lift up the mattress to get at it's bottom.
I'm thinking of putting some wood 2x4's on the bed frame, just under the boxspring, to raise it up a little. Has anyone ever tried this or had other solutions to this type of problem? Obviously, if I had just a simple basic metal bedframe this wouldn't be an issue. However, I want to keep my current bed frame with an integrated head board.
Is the boxspring currently supported by "slats", probably 3/4" boards from side to side; or only by the edge of the frame, on a L shaped edge ?
If slats , then just replace with a thicker board, ie a 2x4
If just held by edges, add 2x4's as slats from side to side, using the L shaped edge to support the slats. Al least 4, top, bottom, 2 (or 3) spaced in between.
If the bed support rails won't work for me I'll try adding slats.
