We just got our city-provided tap water tested by an independent lab and we are looking for a whole house water filter system that does a good job in filtering out primarily the following:
-Chlorine
-Lead (trace amount)
-Copper (trace amount)
-THMs
-Corrosion

It seems like a lot of testimonials for water filtration systems are paid for. Can anyone recommend a company that they've either used themselves or heard good things about from friends/neighbors?

If you will PM TexasRedneck on the city date forum, he is the top dog in Texas for knowing water systems. He's been at it since he was a kid- 40-45 years. He does residential and commercial water so he knows it all. He can advise you on what type of system as there are several and the brand unit for you to look for that will be a long life unit and not break the bank. He's a great guy but please don't tell him I said so. We go WAY back.

Do you want a filter or a softener, or both? How much to you want to filer out? A basic activates carbon canister will take out chlorine. A filter may take out some minerals, but it will not last long. Probably best to soften it first. I prefer softeners with two tanks so the salt in your water is minimal. You can get R.O filters for the whole house if you are rich and enjoy changing expensive filter cartridges. It is all going to depend on what you want and how much you want to pay.

The whole thing is a racket though. One sure sign of a scam is if they insist on both spouses being present for their presentation. That is a hard sell tactic and anytime they insist on it or even request it, run away.
